The Bund (外滩)The Bund is where Western culture began to flow into China in earnest when the port was opened in 1834. Lined with Art Deco buildings that were popular in mid-19th century New York, it gives the impression of being in Europe. The stunning view of Pudong's buildings across the river further enhances its status as Shanghai's number one tourist attraction.
Yu Garden (豫园)Yu Garden was constructed in 1559 by Pan Yunduan, a high-ranking official of the Ming Dynasty, for his parents' retirement. It is an urban garden built over 18 years, reflecting his deep filial piety (entrance fee: RMB 40). In 1982, it was designated a national cultural heritage site.
Provisional Government Site of the Republic of Korea
(大韩民国临时政府旧址)
The site of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea is one of the exile governments established in Shanghai, China, on April 11, 1919. It served as the government office until the heroic bombing by Yun Bong-gil in 1932 (entrance fee: RMB 20). The place where Yun Bong-gil's act occurred is also in Shanghai, at Hongkou Park (now Luxun Park), where the Maehon Pavilion remains to commemorate his deed.
Tianzifang (田子坊)
Tianzifang, also known as the "Art Street," was transformed into an artistic area by the government and a cultural development company after demolishing the old traditional market. It now features galleries, workshops, quaint craft shops, designer clothing stores, and restaurants densely packed throughout the area.
Xintiandi (新天地)
Xintiandi has become the most stylish shopping destination in Shanghai, featuring many restaurants, bars, coffee shops, terrace cafes, shops, galleries, and artists' studios. While the stone gatehouses still retain the old appearance of Shanghai, the interiors are modern and contemporary, creating a harmonious blend of classic and modern elements.
Zhujiajiao Ancient Town (朱家角)
Zhujiajiao is the oldest water town in Shanghai, often referred to as the "Venice of Shanghai." It is located about 48 kilometers from the center of Shanghai, and visitors can tour the town by taking a boat through the canal that runs through the middle of the village.
